Project KidSafe

Project KidSafe

Breakstone, White & Gluck launched Project KidSafe in 2013 with a simple goal: to keep children and families safe. We offer this page as a resource for parents and invite you to visit often for safety tips. You can also follow our work on  Facebook and LinkedIn.

Focus Areas

Bike Helmets Bike Helmets. Wearing a bike helmet is the most effective way for cyclists to prevent a head injury. It is also the law for children in Massachusetts and our goal is to put bike helmets on children who need one. Since 2013, we have donated over 10,000 new bike helmets to children through bicycle committees, police departments, schools and community organizations including Boston Bikes’ Roll It Forward, a program of the City of Boston, and CYCLE Kids in Cambridge. Driving Safety. Driving Safety. Every child should be able to get to and from school safely. We are a member of the Safe Routes to School Alliance, a consortium of local, state and national organizations with a focus on safety, health and wellness, physical activity or the environment as it pertains to children, families and/or the surrounding school district(s). We have donated bike helmets to the Massachusetts Safe Routes Alliance and write about driving safety on our blog.

Unsafe Toys and Products Unsafe Toys and Products. Look for our updates on product recalls impacting children and our safety tips for parents. Over the past few years, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has recalled millions of child car seats, furniture and toys which have seriously injured and killed children. Our goal is to help parents identify common signs of unsafe toys before purchasing if we can and share recall information so they can immediately remove harmful products from their home.

Sports Concussions Sports Concussions and Injuries.  In recent years, the NFL and other professional sports leagues have faced lawsuits over concussions and have implemented changes. Massachusetts and other states have also passed concussion safety laws for student athletes. Children are especially vulnerable to concussions and it is important for families, schools and coaches to take steps to prevent concussion and properly treat them when they happen. We will share resources to help  recognize the signs of concussion and respond appropriately.

Swimming Pool Safety Swimming Pool Safety. Drowning is the leading cause of injury death among children ages 1 through 4 in the United States. We will offer safety precautions for parents, children and pool owners so they can act to reduce the risk of drownings and pool-side injuries.
