Project KidSafe

Project KidSafe

Breakstone, White & Gluck launched Project KidSafe in 2013 with a simple goal: to keep children and families safe. Our attorneys offer this page as a resource for families and invite you to visit often for safety tips. You can also follow our work on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.

Focus Areas

Bike Helmets Bike Helmets. Wearing a bike helmet is the most effective way for cyclists to prevent a head injury. It is also the law for children in Massachusetts and our goal is to put bike helmets on children who need one. This is our goal because we have represented hundreds of cyclists who have been injured by drivers. We have seen first-hand that helmets provide necessary protection and reduce the risk of head injuries.

Since 2013, our attorneys have donated over 20,000 new bike helmets to children, partnering with over 40 bicycle committees, schools and community organizations. Our partners include the Massachusetts Safe Routes to School Program, Boston Bikes, CYCLE Kids and Bikes Not Bombs.

We also proudly partner with a number of police departments each year, including the Boston Police Department, the Cambridge Police Department, the Quincy Police Department, the Randolph Police Department, the Dedham Police Department, the Norwood Police Department, the Everett Police Department, the Malden Police Department, the Waltham Police Department and the Framingham Police Department. Driving Safety. Driving Safety. Every child should be able to walk to and from school safely. The reality is many children and other pedestrians are at high risk, even when they use crosswalks. Pedestrian deaths now stand at a 25-year high in the U.S., according to the Governors Highway Safety Association. Nearly 6,000 pedestrians were killed in 2017.

Our attorneys have represented hundreds of pedestrians who have been injured and killed by drivers who have been speeding or were operating recklessly without regard for safety. These injuries are preventable if drivers take care, slow down and set aside distractions. We write about safety for children and pedestrians of all ages on our blog.

Unsafe Toys and Products Unsafe Toys and Products. Look for our updates on product recalls impacting children and our safety tips for parents. Over the past few years, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has recalled millions of child car seats, furniture and toys which have seriously injured and even killed children. Our goal is to help parents identify common signs of unsafe toys before purchasing if we can and share recall information so they can immediately remove harmful products from their home. Read more.

Sports Concussions Sports Concussions and Injuries. After years of concussion lawsuits, the NFL and other professional sports leagues have developed new concussion protocols to protect players. Massachusetts and other states have also passed concussion prevention and safety laws for student athletes. Schools now have a responsibility to educate both student athletes and parents on how to reduce the risks, recognize the symptoms and medical treatment. After a concussion, students must follow a doctor's treatment plan before they can return to the game.

Through our Project KidSafe campaign, we encourage everyone to learn more about concussion prevention and how to recognize the symptoms.

Swimming Pool Safety Swimming Pool Safety. Drowning is the leading cause of injury death among children ages 0-14 in Massachusetts. Through our Project KidSafe campaign, our attorneys work to prevent child drownings. Our commitment is to help educate families and pool owners about the “layers of protection.”
