Barnstable Car Accident Lawyers

Barnstable is the largest community on Cape Cod. Each year, more than 4 million visitors pass through, heading to the Cape Cod National Seashore. On summer weekends, Hyannis village, Route 6 and Route 28 frequently see traffic jams. Main Street in Hyannis is one of the busiest streets. Congested roads can lead to driver fatigue, mistakes and crashes. These accidents are made worse when they involve freight trucks and work trucks carrying heavy equipment.

Alcohol can also play a role in car accidents. When it does, a drunk driver who causes injury and any establishment which served them can be held liable. A private homeowner can also be held liable if they served the driver.

In addition to ferry service and an airport, Barnstable is served by the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA), which provides bus service. Bus accidents can happen in thick traffic, when bus operators make errors or do not have adequate experience. Companies which provide bus service are known as common carriers and have a heightened duty of care to passengers.

The CCRTA is not the only bus operator on Cape Cod. Tourist buses regularly pass through Barnstable, along with commercial bus services which provide transportation to Logan Airport and South Station in Boston.

If you have been injured in a car accident in Barnstable, our personal injury lawyers can advise you of your rights. You may be able to seek compensation from the auto insurance policy of the driver at fault. There may also be other parties at fault.

Top Car Crash Locations in Barnstable

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has identified three dangerous Barnstable intersections for car crashes:
  • Yarmouth Road and Iyannough Road (Route 28)
  • Pitchers Way and Falmouth Road (Route 28)
  • Bearses Way and Falmouth Road (Route 28)
There were 28 car crashes reported at Pitchers Way and Falmouth Road over the three-year reporting period, including one fatal crash.

Barnstable Bicycle Accident Lawyers

Breakstone, White & Gluck has represented cyclists who have been injured across Massachusetts, including in Barnstable, Sandwich, Mashpee and Yarmouth.

Many Cape Cod residents travel by bike. As the number of cyclists rises, so has traffic congestion and bicycle accidents. From 2010 to 2012, MassDOT received over 300 reports of bike crashes on Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Most of the Cape Cod bike crashes occurred during June, July, August and September.

Two cyclists were killed in bicycle crashes, including a seasonal restaurant worker riding home from work. She was hit by two cars at the intersection of Falmouth Road (Route 28) and Pitcher's Way.

The good news is local communities, business organizations and the state are working to make Cape Cod safer for cyclists. In July 2017, Gov. Charlie Baker and Cape Cod lawmakers celebrated the Cape Cod Rail Trail extension in Dennis. Pedestrians will benefit from this project too; it includes a new pedestrian bridge over the Bass River on Route 134.

There are no state-approved trauma centers on Cape Cod. In many cases, patients have serious injuries and need to be flown to Boston by medical helicopter. The closest trauma center is Steward Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton.
